Active Duty Service (Jan 2007 – Jun 2019)

Nuclear Weapons Specialist (AFSC 2W2) — Jan 2007 – Jun 2015

Joined active duty in January 2007 at age 19 as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist. Served approximately 8.5 years in nuclear weapons handling, maintenance, and safety operations.

The nuclear weapons career field is one of the most safety-critical and audit-intensive in the Department of Defense. Personnel work under two-person integrity rules, undergo continuous reliability programs, and operate within strict accountability and traceability systems — direct parallels to the produce industry’s FSMA traceability discipline and the federal-grade audit posture FIN is being built to support.

Air Force Recruiter — Jun 2015 – Jun 2019

Selected for the USAF Recruiting Service, assigned to the NYC region. Recruiter progression:

  • Brooklyn / Staten Island — Entry-level Recruiter (~1 year)
  • Long Island — Flight Chief over all of Long Island (~1.5 years)
  • New York State — Recruiting Service Trainer (~1 year)

The recruiter career field develops persuasion, mission-mapped sales discipline, and stakeholder management at scale. Promotion from entry-level recruiter to Flight Chief in ~12 months is unusual; it required demonstrated leadership of teams and mission outcomes across multiple recruiting offices.

Reserve Component (Jun 2019 – present)

Education + Reserve Service (Jun 2019 – 2023)

Transferred to the Air Force Reserve in June 2019 and entered Columbia University on the GI Bill, pursuing a BA in 20th Century US History. Simultaneously:

  • Cadet, ROTC at Manhattan College (in preparation for commissioning)
  • Aerospace Machinist at McGuire AFB, NJ, in the reserves

This period demonstrates capacity to operate under multi-domain pressure: full-time elite university coursework + ROTC cadet training + reserve duty as Aerospace Machinist.

Commissioning and Current Assignment (2023 – present)

  • 2023 — Graduated Columbia University with BA, 20th Century US History. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve.
  • 2023 — Transitioned to Air Force Specialty 21A (Aircraft Maintenance Officer).
  • Present — Assigned to Seymour Johnson AFB, NC, on the KC-46 airframe, 916th Air Refueling Wing / 916 Maintenance Squadron, as Traditional Reservist Director of Operations / Flight Commander.

The 21A career field directs aircraft maintenance operations across multiple specialties (avionics, propulsion, hydraulics, structures, support equipment, munitions). The KC-46 is the Air Force’s current- generation air refueling tanker — strategic mission-critical asset. A Reserve Director of Operations / Flight Commander has authority over maintenance operations planning, scheduling, quality assurance, and personnel during reserve duty.

Civilian Career

Director of Warehouse Operations, Nathel & Nathel Inc. (Aug 2024 – present)

Joined Nathel & Nathel Inc. at Hunts Point, NY in August 2024 as Director of Warehouse Operations. Concurrently worked the warehouse floor as Foreman and QC Inspector — a deliberate choice to learn the produce industry from the ground floor up rather than from above.

Nathel & Nathel is a long-established wholesale produce operation at Hunts Point, the largest food distribution center in the United States. Working from the floor exposed Rob to the operational realities of receiving, QC, lot management, customer/vendor relationships, and the information bottlenecks that drove the FIN concept.

Founder, Food Intelligence Inc. (Feb 2026 – present)

Conceived the FIN concept in late September 2025 after ~13 months inside Nathel. Incorporated Food Intelligence Inc. in February 2026. Holds 60% majority ownership. Joshua Gatcke (Nathel VP) and Jacob Gatcke (Nathel GM) are minority partners. The company is VOSB-certified.

Currently in a transition period without salary from FIN, working to bring the Nathel pilot to revenue. Continues to serve in the Air Force Reserve and work at Nathel while building FIN.

Education

  • Columbia University — BA, 20th Century US History, 2023
  • Air Force Recruiting Service School — Recruiter qualification, Flight Chief track, Trainer track
  • Air Force Officer Training School — Commissioning, 2023
  • Aircraft Maintenance Officer Course — 21A qualification, 2023
  • Nuclear Weapons Specialist Technical School — 2W2 qualification, 2007

Federal Pipeline Relevance

Rob’s profile uniquely positions FIN for federal contracting and the federal pipeline:

VOSB Certification (Confirmed)

FIN is VOSB-certified. This unlocks:

  • FAR 19.14 federal contract set-aside lanes for veteran-owned small businesses
  • USDA Specialty Crop Block veteran set-aside considerations
  • SBIR / STTR veteran-track scoring boosts
  • Agency-specific preferences (DoD especially, plus VA-related pathways)

SDVOSB Consideration

Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) is a separate designation with stronger set-aside lanes (FAR 19.15) than plain VOSB. Eligibility requires VA service-connected disability rating.

This requires counsel and a VA disability evaluation to confirm or rule out. The conversation is worth having before federal contracts go active — if SDVOSB is available, it expands set-aside opportunities significantly.

Active Reservist Status

A current-serving active reservist as founder is uncommon in produce tech and uncommon in agentic infrastructure generally. Implications:

  • Inside the DoD ecosystem — credibility with DoD food supply, base commissary supply chains, AAFES procurement
  • Inside the federal procurement community — natural fit for VA, DoD, and adjacent agency conversations
  • Continuity of service — Rob’s reserve commitment continues; FIN is built knowing that founder availability includes reserve drill weekends and annual training

Nuclear Weapons Background

The 2W2 career field’s emphasis on safety-critical operations, audit discipline, two-person integrity rules, traceability, and continuous reliability programs is directly analogous to:

  • FSMA Section 204 traceability requirements
  • Federal food safety audit posture
  • Recall trace determinism (the deterministic-renderer requirement in the Projection Spec maps to nuclear weapons handling discipline)

This is a useful frame for federal evaluators: FIN is being built by someone whose career has been audit-grade safety-critical operations.

KC-46 Aircraft Maintenance Officer

The 21A career field’s emphasis on:

  • Multi-specialty operational coordination
  • Mission-critical asset readiness
  • Quality assurance under operational pressure
  • Personnel leadership during distributed operations

Maps directly to FIN’s harness orchestration model (multiple tools, quality enforcement at the boundary, replay determinism for audit, distributed operations under federation).

Recruiting Service Trainer / Flight Chief Background

Demonstrates capacity for:

  • Sales discipline at scale (multi-territory leadership)
  • Training mission-mapped behavior in others
  • Operating against quantitative goals under continuous review

Relevant to FIN’s GTM motion across five tiers and to scaling the operational support function when the first hire trigger fires.

Operational Reality

Rob lives in or near Seymour Johnson AFB, NC for reserve duty; commutes or remote-works for Nathel at Hunts Point, NY; founder responsibilities for FIN are remote across both locations. Family situation: 4 young kids. Time is the binding constraint. Burnout protection is a program discipline, not a side concern (per docs/strategy/ and the Burnout Protection planning memo).

Strategic Use Of This Bio

This doc is canonical reference content for:

  • Anthropic partner conversations — credibility and unique founder profile for the produce-industry agentic infrastructure thesis
  • Investor decks and conversations — skin-in-game, unusual combination of operational + military + academic
  • Federal pipeline briefings — VOSB credentials, military service, audit-discipline background
  • Anchor customer / Nathel partner conversations — Josh, Jake, and Ira already know this; this doc formalizes for downstream partner introductions
  • Future hire conversations — what kind of company they’re joining and who founded it
  • Patent and IP filings — inventor declarations, prior-art context
  • Grant applications — USDA SBIR, SCBGP, ARPA-H, agency-specific veteran-track programs all require founder bio context

Maintenance Note

Service record details (current assignment, rank, role) update over time. This doc should be revised on:

  • Promotion (e.g., 1Lt → Capt; updates 21A standing)
  • PCS (permanent change of station) if assignment moves
  • FIN equity changes
  • Material changes to civilian role (e.g., when transition period ends and Rob is drawing FIN salary)
  • VOSB → SDVOSB transition if pursued
